Industrial machinery removals
Removing machinery from an operating site needs a clear plan for the machine, the route out and the work around it. The first questions are practical: what is being moved, what is its verified weight and size, how is it fixed in place, and who is responsible for making it ready to move? Those answers help distinguish a straightforward removal from a wider relocation project.
For one machine or a group of machines, agree the destination and handover point before equipment is disconnected. This avoids confusing removal, transport, storage and reinstallation as though they were one unspecified task.
Information that makes a removal plan useful
- A machine list with dimensions, weights, photographs and known lifting points.
- Access measurements for doors, aisles, loading areas and the external route.
- Details of foundations, fixings, services and any dismantling required.
- The site's working-hour restrictions and the order in which machines may be released.
- Whether the destination is another factory, a storage site or a disposal contractor.
A site survey can check the route and the equipment needed. The appropriate lifting method depends on the load and its surroundings; it should not be chosen from a generic equipment list.
Removal, transport and reinstallation
A removal brief should state where responsibility starts and ends. If the machine is moving to a new production site, our factory relocation page covers the wider sequencing and handover questions. For a larger move involving several lifting stages, our lifting projects show the range of work that may need coordinating. If a planned crane lift forms part of the route, read about contract lifting.
Keep the scope specific: disconnecting services, dismantling, loading, transport, offloading, positioning and recommissioning are different activities. Confirm which are required and who will carry out each one before a quotation is agreed.
